"Retro" was a new word in popular culture when we opened our shop on December 1st 1996, and just as the word has changed emphasis and meaning since then so our shop has evolved, and along with our customers we continue to seek a fresh interface between todays design and home decorating trends and those from the classic recent past.
"Mid century design", "modernism" and "Scandinavian style" are the usual expressions used in our field; and to this we also bring an emphasis on Australian furniture, particularly the quality of Fred Lowan's Fler and Tessa with other iconic names like Parker, Danish Deluxe and T.H. Brown. And as well as the usual decorative streams of West German and Italian pottery the Australian brand Ellis.
As well as homewares our passion includes other vintage items including jewellery and clothing, records and magazines... even hi-fi components; in fact the eclecticism of our own tastes is reflected in our ever changing style while seeking to express the best design and craftsmanship from the post war era. What we bring from varied career experiences including 70's London, Biba, the music industry and a wide variety in retail we wish to share with everyone interested in this vital period in our design history.
